His exit was imminent, everyone could see his end coming, especially after the many unnecessary controversies emanating from his Ministry.
No doubt, he has done a lot. But humanity is cruel. People only remember the bad things. We can get 99% right, but people will only recall the remaining 1% that is rotten. That's how the memory works.

Yes, so people do not really care about the 53 initiatives carried out in 2019. His B40, OKU and Free Breakfast Programmes were amongst the popular ones. Sure, there are some excellent ones.
Doesn't matter who started it, but once you signed off on the project, it's considered yours. You get a few wrong ones, and your career is DEAD.

The Rich-ards, have long pulled their children out of public schools, because of the Unsettling Changes. The indecision of English in Maths and Science. The abrupt changes that kept coming without teachers being well prepared. And now the streamless stuff.
And the changes never stop. Haven't they understood that people do not like CHANGE?
The Rich-ards, do not need the extra headache, so they pull out from the public system. But the Masses, what choice do they have? Except to scream, yell and sign petitions?
CHANGES & COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWN
Maszlee made many changes. Many believe that the changes were progressive and good for the nation. So what was the issue?
Failure to communicate. Failure to Engage. Failure to Make PEOPLE UNDERSTAND.
So, Maszlee, after 20 months of toiling, and ROCKING THE BOAT, was told to JUMP OFF THE BOAT. Goodbye Maszlee.

IQ vs EQ?
Change is good, but change in this country must come hand-in-hand with a LOT OF COMMUNICATION and PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT. Otherwise called, POLITICKING.
Problems occur when changes are made without enough awareness, without enough understanding. That's what happened to GST. Alas, some people never learn. Or refuse to learn from past mistakes.
Having a PhD is not good enough. Having good intentions is also not good enough. You also need to be engaging. A politician needs to politick or be ready to fail.
CONCLUSION
VICTIM OF BAD PRESS
Stop blaming the media for nasty headlines. Instead, learn why nasty headlines work ALL THE TIME. Learn to choose your words carefully. Be prepared to answer tough questions with a carefully prepared script.
Don't just leave it to chance. IT NEVER WORKS.
Communication in KEY. At least, Great Politicians understand this.
Perception is Reality. That's all you need to remember.
